Part-Time GP

Ivy Grove Surgery is situated in the heart of the UK in the small market town of Ripley, a stones-throw from the Peak District National Park. The surgery is looking for a part-time GP, either salaried or with a view to partnership.

Job Description

Let’s be honest it’s no secret that times are tough in general practice at the moment, sometimes it can feel like you are being attacked from all angles with everyone wanting a piece of you. Workload is definitely up!

At Ivy Grove Surgery (IGS) they recognise this pressure. Their ethos is to protect their greatest assets, their staff and partners. Their aim is to support each other through regular peer meetings. From their simple 30-minute coffee break together in the staff room every working day, to their ‘New Starter GP- induction and mentoring scheme’. Support for the more challenging aspects of their work takes the form of bereavement meetings, complaint de-brief and support meetings plus the advice and support of the team.

Innovation is key to their ethos, they will not be duplicating or completing work that would be more suitable for another member of their practice team. Their resident IT wizard, the notable Dr Wong, has streamlined their processes with integrated templates, easy QoF reminders and merged referrals forms to name but a few. All of this cuts down the amount of admin their GP’s have to do! Please visit their bespoke website, this should give you a feel of what their practice is all about.

Like any other employer they expect their employees and partners to work hard but pride themselves on a fair and compassionate approach. Their management team are supportive and caring, they are there when you need them the most. They can guide you through practice processes when first starting, give advice on complaint handling, help you network in their locality or help you apply to the CQC for registration when you make partner!

The working days at IGS operate rather differently to traditional GP surgery’s, please ask for more information. An innovative working pattern offers a morning Acute Care Clinic with routine appointments in the afternoon and evenings, the latter allowing patient contacts to be kept to an average of 6-9 face to face consultations either followed by a break or a change in activity. On-call days can get busy but you are not on your own, the duty doctor is supported during the busy morning period by a second GP, who also completes the morning visits.

There is also protected admin/paperwork time in the day.

The Enhanced Access HUB currently operates from the building offering late evening and weekend appointments. This gives the opportunity for any Amber Valley based GP to work in the HUB.

The nuts and bolts of IGS are its staff and partners but the “Factuals” are listed as follows:

  • Patient list size 10,700
  • 6 partners, 3 practice nurses, 1 HCA’s plus managerial/administrative/reception staff
  • 6 weeks of annual leave plus 1 week study leave per annum
  • Prestigious areas of Duffield and Belper within a 10-minute drive of IGS
  • Good transport links to the M1/A38 and East Midlands airport and parkway, giving rail access to London in 1.5 hours. The cities of Nottingham/Derby/Birmingham and Manchester are all within approximately an hour’s drive

The surgery is looking to cover 4 sessions per week, Monday and Tuesday.

The surgery would also be interested in meeting applicants who have had previous partnership experience and are looking to relocate. They welcome each applicant on their merits, but advantageous skills would be in the following areas:

  • Family planning services
  • DFSRH
  • Interest in Gynaecology and women’s health
  • GP speciality trainer, foundation year or medical student trainer.

If you are interested give them a call on 01773 514130 and ask for Charmagne Stephenson, Practice Manager or by email. To apply, please click the ‘Email Your CV’ button on this page.
